RADIUM OFFICIAL COMMUNITY PLAN & ZONING BYLAW

Radium Hot Springs, with its last Official Community Plan (OCP) update completed in 2013, was due for a refresh, especially with the evolving needs of its residents and the growing tourism sector. Radium engaged a collaborative team, including Selkirk Planning & Design, to guide the OCP and Zoning Bylaw updates. The process included a comprehensive community consultation effort, featuring advisory group meetings, in-person and online stakeholder sessions, public open houses, community surveys, and a walking tour through key areas of the Village. These efforts ensured the updated plan aligned closely with the vision and priorities of the residents.

The updated OCP explores diverse housing options by increasing the number of units allowed per residential lot by 1 for each zoning designation. It also attempts to balance the need for better access to attainable housing options for residents and tourist accommodation, by regulating short-term rentals, offering flexibility for controlled growth while respecting the community’s scale and character. The OCP introduces new environmental protection areas, a set of Environmental and Hazard Land Development Permit Areas (DPAs), and simplified Building Form & Character DPAs, The Zoning Bylaw update follows the OCP process closely, ensuring that the Zoning Bylaw aligns with the Vision and Intent of the OCP. The OCP and Zoning Bylaw are currently in progress and working towards adoption in the summer
