NEW DENVER CENTENNIAL PARK MASTER PLAN CONCEPT
New Denver, BC · 2021
The Village of New Denver has one of the most spectacular waterfront parks in the Kootenays. Centennial Park, located on Slocan Lake is a large 5.2 hectare park defined by Carpenter Creek to the north, a residential neighbourhood to the east and Slocan Lake to the west and south. Dominated primarily by sports fields and two campging areas, the park holds cultural value as a former Japanese internment camp.
The design team strived to better link the campground, and reduce its impact on the park by moving and redesigning it to free up waterfront access for more community uses. Informed by significant community input, the new park plan featured an outdoor air stage for cultural events, new playground equipment, a bike skills park, pedestrian bridge across Carpenter Creek, an accessible boat launch, redesigned boat launch with parking, and a redesigned campground with no The conceptual design was presented as a series of maps and 3D graphics and sketches, and included a preliminary cost estimate. The plan was well received by Council and the community in 2021.
