Valemount Official Community Plan & Zoning Bylaw

Valemount is a BC Resort Municipality on the north end of Kinbasket Lake. A community in transition, that is in need of a clear community vision, and policy and zoning guidelines to help it manage the roller coaster growth cycle that tends to occur in other Resort Communities in BC. For this project Selkirk Planning & Design, Amy Clarke, Bluerock Planning and Rynic teamed up with MVH Urban Planning & Design (Project Lead) to complete Valemount’s new Official Community Plan and Zoning Bylaw.

The team began the project with in person visits and engagement. As COVID began to affect engagement methods, the team shifted to hybrid online and in-person (outside) engagement. Working closely with Village staff, the team crafted an Official Community Plan that reflected the desires of the community and identified unique opportunities to encourage through strong policies.

Fraser’s work included GIS-integrated mapping, graphic layout and design of the Official Community Plan, OCP writing, Public Engagement – both in-person and online, Zoning Bylaw Support, and Master Plan Development for the Village-owned Ash Street Property.
