Revelstoke Visual Arts Centre Design Concept

Selkirk Planning & Design was hired by the City of Revelstoke to work with the Revelstoke Visual Arts Society (RVAS) to develop a redesign concept for the Revelstoke Visual Arts Centre. The City of Revelstoke wanted to create a pathway connection to the existing river trail pathway and encourage overall enhancement of the area. The RVAS wanted to improve the building character and overall attractiveness of the property.

SPD worked with the RVAS to identify preferred exterior enhancements to the building, and create a community garden space that would be well-used by the community and the RVAS for special functions. The design included innovative features such as food production space to be co-managed with the Revelstoke Local Food Initiative, a low maintenance xeriscape area and an expanded naturalscape area through a selective no-mow process.

The xeriscape garden and food production space were built in 2015. The naturalscape garden is planned for the future.
