Williamson’s Lake is a well-loved community park in Revelstoke. It has a long history as the “local swimming hole” and is one of the go-to places in Revelstoke in the summer. It’s later history includes the addition of a campground that serves visitors and the odd resident through the summer months. The beachfront, campground and campground facilities were aging and in need os some attention, so a Concept Plan was developed to:
- Improve and enhance Williamson’s Lake beachfront;
- Make it feel like a community park rather than a private campground; and
- Create a great public space and increase resident and tourist visits.
The project design focused on three main areas:
Planning for the long-term replacement of the aging existing day use and campground buildings;
Improving the day use area of the park; and
Improving the campground to bring it up the standards of a municipal park in a BC Resort community.
The Conceptual Design Plan was completed in early 2016. A summary report was presented to Council in the spring of 2016. To date some changes have been implemented, such as improvement to the beachfront, and further improvements are being planned for the campground facilities.
